Measurement challenge

Make the longest strip of paper using only one sheet 7 x 10 sheet of paper in 15 minutes.

It is always fun to see the student attack this challenge! They know they need to cut the page into strips, but it is fun to watch the problem solving in play. You can here kids talk about cutting thin strips, one gluing and one cutting, gluing close the edge, etc. some groups had started and then noticed other groups with really thin strips and changes there plans. Others went back and trimmed pieces that were already glued. Regardless of the process, the kids had a blast completing the challenge and it made for some great measurement comparisons and measuring today with nonstandard units.

Some of the strips stretch the whole room!
